what a privilege?! I think..
So in early September, my younger sister(by 3 years) got engaged. In October we had a small gathering of closest, closest, closest family and friends for an engagement party. My sister is the type of person that is, how can i put it, Unique. For years she has said that if and when she decided to get married she would rather elope and spend the money that she would originally spend on the big wedding for a trip with her husband. Now we, being a 100% hispanic family, are obviously not going to let her. That, and given that fact that we have had too many bad news in the family upon more bad news in the last couple of years that having this big great news, needs a celebration; although I will admit that it is going to be a, what I like to call, roller coaster of emotions. You see our father passed away in December of 09 from cancer. So ever since then, we haven't been able to have a reason to smile, besides the fact the we have each other and God's love to keep us going. I know every girls dream, whether they like to admit it or not, is to have their father walk them down the aisle. So given the circumstances, my sister nor our other 4 sister will have that. Well actually one of my older sisters was the only one to have that privilege. That alone will be something that will have us emotional that special day. I know my father would be so proud of her as I am. I love my sister. After she got engaged my one brother asked her who she was having as maid of honor. Considering all of her closest friends live far away and the ones near by will not be available my adorable brother asked if I was going to be her maid of honor. Wouldn't you like to know her response to his question?! She says, and i quote, "I gueeeeess." What an honor for me right?! JA! I was like wow don't sound too excited. LOL. Even thought that is what she said, what she really meant was, "sister, it would be an honor if you would accept to be my maid of honor." At least I would like to think so. LOL. So now I have become not only her maid of honor but seems like we are not hiring a wedding planner, because guess who is going to be it. ME! All that aside, I will not admit it to her, but I am honor to do this for her. She is my sister and even though we have been through so much together as sister and as friends, I love that I can be a part of her special day. I'm really, really, really glad I'm doing this for her. Not only because I love planning events, but because she is my lil sis and she deserves to be happy with the man God chose her to be with. Now it is my duty as sister-in-law to give him a hard time. MUAHAHAHAHA. Just kidding. Only until they say there I do's. (It's payback for all the times she was mean to my boyfriend as teens). In all seriousness, I am really proud of my sister and wish her well. We have officially begun planning a wedding. Woohoo! So because this is my first time as a maid of honor I will be documenting the whole process. Like i said before I love planning events, but this will be by far the biggest event I have planned so I want to record everything. From now on no more sadness, just smiles. = )
